On Earth Day, I thought it appropriate to share this entry. TOTEM is a concept project I have been working on for a while with the input from my family.
My son Kheilan and I have been discussing for some time the idea of making an apparel line with a theme focus. He is thinking of doing his own concept with minimalist illustrations.
We decided to experiment with a series of double exposures with animals we all admire—the feature image is Panthera onca (also known as a panther).
Black jaguars are my wife’s favorite jungle animal. While rare, they can be found in the jungles of Costa Rica. The background photo on the panther is actually a river in Cartago, Costa Rica. I took the photo in 2010, right after two days of constant rain.
I’ll be sure to share an update on this project via Twitter and in this post.

[Totem] a natural object or animal that is believed by a particular society to have spiritual significance and that is adopted by it as an emblem.
